Traders from Valliyoor's old market have petitioned the Tirunelveli District Collector alleging irregularities in the allotment of shops at a new market complex. They claim that despite operating at the old market for years, fewer shops are available in the new facility than there are traders. Concerns were also raised about an increased base price for shops and alleged political influence in the tender process. The traders are demanding a uniform base price, monthly rent collection, and the allotment of 133 shops to accommodate all old market traders.
