Nagaland has implemented the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Rules, 2024, making birth certificates the sole valid document for school admissions, government jobs, driving licences, Aadhaar registration, voter ID, and marriage certificates. This follows the 2023 amendment to the national Registration of Births and Deaths Act, effective from October 1, 2023. The state has established 1,474 registration units, including in villages and health centres, to facilitate timely birth registration and legal identity verification.
