Trinamool Congress to Contest 51 Assam Assembly Seats Independently in 2026 Polls

The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) announced it will contest 51 seats independently in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections scheduled for April 9. TMC leader Sushmita Dev stated the party aims to offer a credible alternative to both the ruling BJP and existing opposition, despite being excluded from the Congress-led alliance. Dev criticized the BJP's election timing and alleged coordination between the Election Commission and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The party plans to avoid contesting seats with opposition candidates to prevent vote splitting.
