Supreme Court to Address Surge in Airfares During Festivals and Peak Travel

The Supreme Court of India has expressed concern over sharp increases in airfares during festivals and peak travel periods, describing such hikes as 'exploitative.' Hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by social activist S Laxminarayanan, the court indicated it will intervene to regulate dynamic pricing and enhance passenger protections. The plea highlights issues like sudden fare surges, reduced free baggage allowance, and lack of a robust regulatory framework. The Centre, DGCA, and AERA have been asked to respond, with further hearings scheduled.
