Mizoram Biometrics Enrolls Majority of Myanmar Refugees Amid Management Challenges

Mizoram has biometrically enrolled 26,381 Myanmar refugees, completing 93.4% of the process, with around 1,974 still unregistered. The state hosts over 38,000 refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh, mainly from ethnic groups closely linked to the Mizos. The government faces challenges in housing and managing refugees scattered across the state, including some involved in illegal trade, which authorities are investigating and addressing. Plans for designated settlements remain difficult to implement amid ongoing regional unrest.
