Delhi Government Initiates Underground Power Line Project and Grid Upgrades for Long-Term Capacity

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced a Rs 160 crore project to shift 52.5 km of overhead electricity wires underground across 28 roads in Old Delhi, including Chandni Chowk, to enhance safety and preserve heritage. The government is also promoting electric vehicle adoption, anticipating increased power demand. Additionally, infrastructure upgrades include a new Gas Insulated Switchgear grid at Mandoli and four utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems to strengthen Delhi's power network for the next 50 years.
