JPC Expected to Retain 30-Day Detention Clause in PM, CM Removal Bill for Monsoon Session
The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) is expected to adopt its report on the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill by July 17, retaining the provision for automatic removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and ministers if detained for 30 consecutive days in serious criminal cases. The bill, introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, aims to enhance accountability but faces opposition concerns over potential misuse for political vendetta. The government plans to introduce the bill in the upcoming Monsoon Session starting July 20, where it will require a two-thirds majority for passage.
