US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested Waheed Allah Mohammad, a 39-year-old Afghan illegal immigrant in Rochester, New York, on January 1. Mohammad was convicted in 2009 of first-degree attempted murder and assault after stabbing his teenage sister in 2008 during a dispute over her behavior. Despite a deportation order issued over a decade ago, he remained in the US. ICE officials described the arrest as part of targeted efforts to remove convicted criminals posing threats to communities.
