The Union Labour Ministry has revised scholarship guidelines to allow students receiving its welfare-based scholarships, aimed at children of unorganised workers in sectors like beedi, cine, and non-coal mining, to also claim merit-based scholarships from central or state governments. This change, aligned with the Social Security Code 2020, seeks to enhance educational access and reduce dropouts among vulnerable families. Additionally, the ministry plans to settle over 700,000 inactive Employees' Provident Fund accounts, returning accumulated savings to account holders or heirs.
