Government Extends CBDT Chairman Ravi Agrawal's Tenure by Six Months
The Union government has extended the tenure of Ravi Agrawal as Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) by six months, effective from July 1 to December 31, 2026, or until further orders. The 1988-batch Indian Revenue Service officer was due to retire on June 30, 2026. His reappointment, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, is on a contract basis with terms applicable to re-employed central government officers and includes a relaxation of recruitment rules. Agrawal has led the CBDT since June 2024, with prior extensions ensuring continuity in tax administration.
