
Edwin Lutyens, the British architect behind Rashtrapati Bhavan, incorporated Indian architectural elements such as the dome inspired by the Great Stupa at Sanchi and Mughal-style jaalis. Recently, his bronze bust was removed from Rashtrapati Bhavan's central courtyard and relocated to its museum, replaced by a bust of C Rajagopalachari, India's last governor-general. The move, supported by Prime Minister Modi as a cultural assertion, has drawn mixed reactions, including criticism from Lutyens's great-grandson and praise from Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
