Meghalaya Governor C H Vijayashankar has convened a special session of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) on March 16 following a letter from 21 council members alleging that Chief Executive Member Albinush R Marak has lost the House's confidence. The move comes amid political tensions after Marak's notification barring non-tribals from contesting GHADC elections sparked protests and violence in the region. Members from the National People's Party and Trinamool Congress, holding a majority, seek leadership change through a no-confidence motion during the session.
