In the 2026 Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation elections, the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA), led by Hitendra Thakur, retained control by winning 71 of 115 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made significant gains, securing 43-44 seats and emerging as the main challenger. The Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) won one seat, while other parties, including Congress and the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, failed to win any seats. The BJP's improved performance included key victories in Ward 18, attributed partly to former MP Dhananjay Singh's campaign. Despite setbacks for some senior BVA leaders, the party credited grassroots workers for the overall success.
