A study using plagiarism in master's theses suggests a correlation between dishonesty and public service in China. Researchers analyzed 6 million dissertations, finding individuals who plagiarized more were more likely to enter and advance within the civil service, particularly in customs and tax roles. While universities introduced plagiarism detection software from 2009, reducing such behavior, the link persisted. An experiment indicated this tendency reflects an enduring character trait.
