Iran has appointed Ayatollah Alireza Arafi as the jurist member of its interim Leadership Council, which will govern until the Assembly of Experts selects a new supreme leader. Arafi, a cleric with longstanding ties to the regime and member of the Guardian Council and Assembly of Experts, joins President Masoud Pezeshkian and Chief Justice Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei on the three-member council. His appointment reflects trust from the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and marks a shift from singular leadership to collective governance.
