Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal criticized the government over the killing of Angel Chakma, a student from Tripura, in Dehradun. Sibal alleged the incident was a hate crime and bigotry, accusing leaders of complicity through silence. Police reported Chakma and his brother argued with locals on December 9, leading to an attack with knives and brass knuckles. Chakma died on December 26. His father claims racial slurs were used. Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami stated such incidents are unacceptable, and authorities have apprehended five individuals, with a reward offered for the absconding accused.
