Karnataka Deputy CM Assures Contractors on Pending Dues and Proposes Legislative Seat

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar addressed contractors protesting unpaid dues totaling around Rs 37,000 crore across various departments. He assured facilitating a meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to resolve the backlog and proposed creating a dedicated Legislative Council seat for contractors to represent their interests. Contractors, led by the Karnataka State Contractors' Association, staged a statewide strike demanding immediate payments and reforms, citing financial distress from delayed bills and alleging corruption in project executions under the current government.
