Senior Assam Congress leader Ratul Kalita resigned, criticizing state party president Gaurav Gogoi and top leadership for sidelining grassroots workers and favoring political heirs. Kalita alleged neglect of ordinary members, lack of recognition, and dissatisfaction with candidate selection, including being overlooked for tickets in 2021 and recently. He also claimed the party favors former BJP leaders. Over 20 local Congress members reportedly resigned in solidarity. Gogoi responded that public reaction to the candidate list has been positive amid ongoing opposition discussions ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
