West Bengal CM Lays Foundation for World's Tallest Mahakal Idol in Siliguri

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has laid the foundation stone for the Mahakal Mahatirtha Complex in Siliguri, which will feature the world's tallest Mahakal idol of Lord Shiva at 216 feet, including a 108-foot bronze statue. Spread over 17 acres, the project aims to boost religious tourism, cultural study, and employment in north Bengal. The state government allocated ₹344.2 crore for the development, with plans to accommodate up to 100,000 pilgrims daily. The initiative follows similar cultural projects and is seen as a strategic move ahead of upcoming elections.
