Several districts in Jammu and Kashmir, including Shopian, Kulgam, Budgam, and Srinagar, have banned the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) for up to two months, citing security reasons. Authorities state that VPNs can be exploited for unlawful activities, including spreading misinformation and coordinating actions prejudicial to public order and national security. The bans follow increased surveillance and come after similar restrictions in other regions of Jammu and Kashmir, with over ten individuals booked for VPN usage in the past month.
