Indian Railways aims to double train capacity in major cities within five years, with full implementation by 2030. This initiative involves augmenting existing terminals with more platforms and facilities, identifying new terminal locations, and upgrading maintenance infrastructure. Sectional capacity will be increased through signaling upgrades and multitracking. Ten Northern Railway stations, including Delhi, Lucknow, and Varanasi, are slated for infrastructure upgrades as part of this plan to meet growing travel demand.
