Karnataka to Enact Rohith Vemula Act to Address Caste Discrimination in Universities

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced plans to enact the Rohith Vemula Act to prevent caste-based discrimination and harassment of students across all government, private, and deemed universities in the state. Named after the Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula, the legislation aims to create safer academic environments. The draft bill was discussed in February and awaits finalisation after inputs from the Home department. The government also plans to reinstate student union elections to promote leadership and democratic values.
