Karnataka to Enact Rohith Vemula Bill to Address Caste Discrimination on Campuses

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the state's plan to enact the Rohith Vemula Bill aimed at preventing caste-based discrimination and harassment of students across all government, private, and deemed universities. Named after Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula, the legislation follows a draft discussed in the state cabinet. The government also plans to reinstate student union elections and is implementing a Rs 2,500 crore Higher Education Transformation Project with Asian Development Bank support to enhance colleges and polytechnics.
