Supreme Court Sets Aside CBI Probe Order in Ambience Mall Case, Directs Trial on Builders-Banks Nexus

The Supreme Court set aside a 2020 Punjab and Haryana High Court order directing a CBI probe into the Ambience Mall project in Gurugram, ruling the high court's direction was based on unverified material and erroneous assumptions about land use and contractual terms. The SC clarified that other pending proceedings remain unaffected. Separately, the court directed a Delhi trial court to take cognisance of CBI chargesheets in cases alleging a nexus between banks and builders defrauding homebuyers under subvention schemes in the NCR, urging expeditious trial and further investigations where warranted.
