Syria has introduced redesigned banknotes, replacing portraits of former President Bashar al-Assad with symbols of nature and agriculture. Unveiled by interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa, the new currency also features a redenomination, dropping two zeros to simplify transactions. This move aims to symbolize a break from the past and restore trust in the Syrian pound, which has significantly devalued due to war and instability. Officials acknowledge that while a step toward stabilization, broader economic reforms are needed to curb inflation and boost purchasing power.
