The Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) announced statewide protests on January 16 against the Central Government's Electricity Amendment Bill 2025. The SKM alleges the bill aims to privatize the electricity department and introduce chip-based meters, which would end subsidies and require advance recharging, making electricity unaffordable. Tractor and motorcycle marches are planned from December 28 to January 4 as part of a mobilization campaign. Leaders stated the bill would eliminate current electricity bill waivers for farmers, laborers, and others.
