Delhi is considering a new 'green cess' on new petrol and CNG vehicles, potentially ranging from 1-2%, to encourage a shift towards electric vehicles (EVs). This proposal, part of a draft EV policy expected next month, aims to make conventional vehicles more expensive and EVs more attractive. The current cess on diesel vehicles may also increase. The policy, which could be finalized by March, seeks to boost the current 12-14% EV registration share.
