Karnataka's ruling Congress party has formed a nine-member committee to study the reintroduction of student union elections. Led by Medical Education Minister Sharan Praksah Patil, the committee will examine modalities and feasibility, aiming to foster democratic representation and leadership on campuses. The committee is tasked with submitting recommendations within 15 days. Student elections were previously banned in Karnataka in 1989 due to campus violence and political interference.
