
K.P. Unnikrishnan, former Union Minister and senior Congress leader, died at 89 while receiving treatment for age-related ailments in Kozhikode. He served six consecutive terms as MP for Vadakara from 1971 to 1996, representing Congress and its factions. Unnikrishnan held portfolios in Telecommunications, Shipping, and Surface Transport in the V.P. Singh Cabinet (1989-90), notably overseeing the evacuation of Indians during the Gulf War. He began his career as a journalist and was active in socialist politics before joining Congress.
