The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has renewed efforts to collect over ₹3,000 crore in betterment fees from landowners in 22 Bengaluru layouts where properties were notified but later excluded from layout schemes. Despite attempts since 2015, most owners have not paid, partly due to legal challenges. The BDA issued a public notice on February 25 and may take strict actions, including demolitions and property auctions, against defaulters. The fees correspond to one-third of the land value increase after layout formation, as per the BDA Act, 1976.
