The carcass of a pregnant leopard, estimated to be three to four years old, was discovered by forest officials on December 27, 2025, in the Basavanatara forest area near Bengaluru. Post-mortem revealed three cubs in its stomach. Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre stated the leopard likely died from a rock explosion at a nearby quarry, and an FIR has been filed. Local MLA S.T. Somasekar alleged illegal mining and blasting caused the death, urging a ban on quarrying activities. The Minister has ordered a thorough investigation.
