The Indian Army has achieved 90% indigenisation of its ammunition, significantly reducing import dependence and strengthening its domestic supply chain. This strategic move aligns with the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' and 'Make in India' initiatives, aiming to enhance long-term war-fighting capabilities. While most ammunition variants are now sourced domestically, remaining categories are under active development involving research agencies, public sector, and private manufacturers. Procurement reforms have also been implemented to foster competition and diverse sourcing.
