The Philippine Coast Guard deployed an aircraft to challenge a Chinese research vessel, CRV Tan Suo Er Hao, operating approximately 19 nautical miles off the coast of Cagayan province. The vessel, which serves as a base for submersible operations, was radio-challenged to confirm if it was conducting unauthorized marine research, a violation of Philippine and international law. The Chinese ship did not respond to the challenges.
