Maharashtra to Prosecute Drug Crimes Under MCOCA, Hold Couriers Co-Accused

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that drug-related offenses will now be prosecuted under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), with courier firms involved in drug deliveries being treated as co-accused. From January to February 11, 93 cases and 112 arrests were made in Mumbai, with drugs worth Rs 7.93 crore seized. The government maintains a zero-tolerance policy, including terminating police personnel involved in drug trade, and highlights social media platforms as marketplaces for narcotics.
