
The Union environment ministry initiated a process on December 8 to map Aravalli mountain range areas based on a Supreme Court-accepted elevation definition. States will work with the Survey of India to identify landforms meeting a 100-meter elevation threshold, forming the basis for future sustainable mining plans. This groundwork, intended to inform a court-ordered Management Plan for Sustainable Mining, has drawn criticism from environmental experts who fear it will exclude significant portions of the range from protection.
