Chief Justice of India Surya Kant laid the foundation stone for a new integrated judicial complex in North Guwahati, which will house the Gauhati High Court. The Gauhati High Court Bar Association (GHCBA) is protesting the relocation from the city center, citing accessibility concerns and alleging a unilateral government decision. CJI Kant expressed surprise at the opposition, stating personal vested interests should not hinder future infrastructure development and that opponents might be ill-informed about the needs of new lawyers. The new complex is planned to include numerous courtrooms and advocate chambers.
