Secondary grade teachers have been protesting for five days, demanding equal pay for equal work. Over 1,000 teachers were detained by police during a demonstration at the Regional Education Officer office in Egmore. The Secondary Grade Seniority Teachers' Association (SSTA) organized the protest, vowing to continue until their demands are met. The state government and School Education department have not yet responded to the ongoing demonstrations.
