Maharashtra's Public Works Department (PWD) is now mandated to keep state and national highways free of stray dogs, extending a previous directive. Following Supreme Court orders, PWD offices will conduct drives via District Road Safety Committees to capture and relocate stray animals from sensitive highway locations. Vigilance squads comprising police, animal husbandry, and local administration will conduct inspections. A public awareness campaign will utilize highway helplines for reporting animal presence, ensuring swift action and grievance redressal.
