India's Railways has missed its second deadline for the rollout of the indigenous 'Kavach' automatic train protection system on the high-density New Delhi-Mumbai and New Delhi-Howrah corridors. Officials now aim for operationalization in 2026, having previously targeted March 2025 and then December 2025. Approximately 25% of the work is commissioned, with major components installed on the remaining sections. Kavach is designed to automatically apply brakes to prevent accidents due to human error.
