India has installed rooftop solar systems in 25 lakh households under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, reaching a quarter of its FY27 target. Installations are expected to increase with a new utility-led aggregation model, where discoms manage installations for households. A Parliamentary Standing Committee noted challenges in broad-based progress, citing states' and discoms' limited participation and a lack of public awareness as primary reasons for slow adoption.
