India is establishing the Bureau of Ports Security (BoPS), a new federal agency to implement airport-style security measures at ports nationwide. Modeled after the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, BoPS will oversee security protocols, access control, cybersecurity, and cargo monitoring. The agency, operating under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, aims to enhance maritime security and counter threats like smuggling and terrorism. It will coordinate with various agencies and grade ports based on security audits.
