The Kerala BJP unit has expressed support for the state government's proposal to officially rename Kerala as 'Keralam,' reflecting its Malayalam linguistic heritage. BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urging intervention to formalize the change. The move follows a unanimous resolution by the Kerala Legislative Assembly in June 2024. Chandrasekhar stated the renaming could help preserve cultural traditions and counter demands for religiously based district divisions.
