Allahabad High Court Registers PIL Over 1.08 Lakh Missing Persons Cases in Uttar Pradesh

The Allahabad High Court's Lucknow bench has taken suo motu cognisance of over 1.08 lakh missing persons cases reported in Uttar Pradesh between January 2024 and January 2026. Despite numerous complaints, police action was initiated in only about 9,700 cases, prompting the court to register a public interest litigation. The court expressed serious concern over the authorities' slow response and has scheduled further hearings, directing senior officials to participate via video conferencing.
