Delhi Government Approves Free LPG Cylinder Scheme for Economically Weaker Households

The Delhi government has approved a welfare scheme to provide one free LPG cooking gas cylinder to economically weaker households on Holi, with a budget of Rs 300 crore allocated for its initial rollout. Beneficiaries, identified through ration card data, will receive the cylinder cost via Direct Benefit Transfer to their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts, enabling them to purchase from regular distributors. This initiative fulfills a BJP election promise, with plans to extend benefits on Diwali and consider subsidised cylinders at Rs 500 in the future.
