Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth Appointed Next Chief of Army Staff, To Assume Office June 2026
Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth has been appointed as the next Chief of the Army Staff, set to assume office on June 30, 2026, succeeding General Upendra Dwivedi upon his retirement. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Seth was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in 1986 and brings nearly four decades of experience across operational, strategic, and capability development roles. He has commanded key formations including two major operational Army Commands, the Sudarshan Chakra Corps, and has contributed significantly to the Army's modernisation efforts. His tenure as Army Chief is expected to last until August 31, 2028.
