Supreme Court Calls for Holistic Greenery Approach Beyond Delhi, Discusses Delhi Ridge Management

The Supreme Court emphasized the need to move beyond the mindset that only Delhi requires greenery, highlighting the importance of a holistic approach to green cover across all states. The court discussed the Delhi Ridge, a forested extension of the Aravalli Hills divided into four zones covering about 7,784 hectares. It referenced a November 11 verdict directing the Centre to grant statutory status to the Delhi Ridge Management Board (DRMB) as the single authority for Ridge-related matters. The DRMB, reconstituted with officials from the Centre, Delhi government, urban and forest departments, NGOs, and the Central Empowered Committee, was formally constituted on December 1. The court also sought details on other committees managing forest and environmental issues.
