The Virar-Alibaug Multimodal Corridor project in Maharashtra's Mumbai Metropolitan Region will acquire approximately five hectares of land reserved for affordable housing in Kalyan's Shirdhon. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) plans to use the land for the 126-km corridor, which aims to improve connectivity. Mhada, which owns the land designated for Economically Weaker Section, Low Income Group, and Middle Income Group housing, has requested ₹50 crore in compensation from MSRDC. Construction has begun on some affordable housing units on the affected plot.
