Israel's Knesset has approved a new law establishing a national day to commemorate Moroccan Jews who immigrated to the country and remember those lost during their journey. The day, set for the 23rd of Tevet, also marks the anniversary of the 'Egoz' ship disaster in 1961, which claimed the lives of 44 Moroccan Jews. The legislation mandates educational programs in schools and an annual Knesset session to honor the heritage of Moroccan Jewry, a community comprising an estimated one million Israelis.
