Foundation Laid for India’s First Inland River Lighthouses on Brahmaputra

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid foundation stones for India's first inland river lighthouses along the Brahmaputra in Assam, at Bogibeel, Pandu, Silghat, and Biswanath Ghat. The Rs 84 crore project includes 20-metre solar-powered lighthouses with a 14-nautical-mile range, complemented by tourist facilities. Positioned on National Waterway-2, these lighthouses aim to enhance navigation and support a growing cargo corridor, responding to a 53% surge in freight movement in 2024-25, while promoting sustainable transport and regional development.
