Karnataka Assembly Bypolls in Bagalkot and Davanagere South Scheduled for April 9

The Election Commission of India has scheduled bypolls for Karnataka's Bagalkot and Davanagere South Assembly constituencies on April 9, 2026, with vote counting set for May 4. These by-elections follow the deaths of sitting Congress MLAs H.Y. Meti and Shamanur Shivashankarappa. Both the ruling Congress and opposition BJP are preparing for a competitive contest, with candidate nominations closing by March 23 and withdrawals by March 26. The results will fill the seats until the 2028 Assembly elections.
